60 rescued after Bog Walk Gorge overflowed

About 60 people have been rescued after being trapped in the bog walk gorge in St Catherine, due to the Rio Cobre overflowing its banks earlier this afternoon, following heavy rains.

Representatives of the office of disaster preparedness and emergency management ODPEM, the Jamaica Defence Force, the Fire Brigade, the Police and the National Works Agency, coordinated the rescue operation.
A statement from ODPEM says water levels in the bog walk gorge has risen to critical levels, resulting in its closure.
The alternative routes of Barry and Sligoville remain accessible to vehicular traffic.
