An unexpected tragedy occurred today on an American Airlines Airbus A320 flight. The Captain of the plane passed away during his flight.

It’s reported that the pilot began to feel ill as he was flying on his route from Phoenix to Boston. The plane that was carrying almost 150 passengers, landed safely by the Captain’s co-pilot who took over.

The co-pilot made an emergency stop in Syracuse before passengers made it to their final destination. Thankfully, pilots and co-pilots take turns when flying, so the co-pilot was more than capable of handling the situation with ease and securing the safety of the passengers.

As strange as it sounds, this was not the first time a Pilot passed away during a flight. Seven pilots from U.S. Airlines and one charter pilot have died during fights since 1994.
