A policewoman was killed by gunmen last night while travelling on a bus heading towards Spanish Town.

She has been identified as Woman Constable Chrystal Thomas.

It is reported that the policewoman, who was based at the Denham Town police station in Kingston, had just left work.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre understands that armed robbers entered the bus on which she was travelling and proceeded to search the passengers.

The police said when it was discovered that she was a policewoman, the robbers diverted the bus to an area of Goat Island off Spanish Town Road, in St Andrew. She was shot at point blank range. She was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
