ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The police have confirmed that one man died this morning after the motor vehicle he was driving overturned in the Rio Cobre along the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine.
The police have identified the deceased as 60-year-old Jeffery Anglin of Biscayne Drive, Willodene, also in the parish.
Reports reaching OBSERVER ONLINE are that the driver apparently failed to negotiate the turn onto Flat Bridge properly, causing the Toyota Camry motor car to plunge into the river.
A woman and two men who were on the scene at the time and saw what was happening, reportedly attempted to assist the man but said the vehicle sunk quickly.
A unit from the Spanish Town Fire Department responded later and removed the vehicle from the river. Anglin was found slumped over in the driver seat. He was still strapped in by the seat belt.
The incident happened some time after 7:00 am.
Meanwhile, the police advised that the Bog Walk Gorge, which was earlier closed to facilitate rescue operations, has been reopened. They however cautioned motorists to proceed carefully
