A Florida Appellate Court has thrown out an appeal by incarcerated Reggae artiste Buju Banton.

Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, filed an appeal to have his conviction overturned on the grounds that a juror had deliberately disregarded a judge’s order not to study any aspect of the law relating to the case or his music.

Banton was seeking to secure a new trial.

This means the artiste will continue to serve his 10-year prison sentence. He was found guilty on a charge of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He was convicted in February 2011, days after he won a Grammy award for his album, “Before the Dawn.”

Buju is scheduled to be released in 2019.
