So how about Lee Daniels is talking about a spin-off of “Empire” and names Ms. Cookie Lyon as the focus!

Daniels told a panel of TV critics, “There’s so much ripe story that we’ve talked about already, about Cookie’s family, what makes her her. That in itself is fascinating to me.”

Further confirmation came from Executive producer, Brian Grazer, who told The Associated Press that before a spin-off can happen, it’s important for the material to “never get corny. Completely stay authentic. … As long as it stays dangerous, we’re cool. As long as we can stay that way for this season, these guys can think about a spin-off, we’ll be OK.”

All that off script drama Ms. Cookie and Daniels receive, a spin-off might not be a bad idea.

Focusing on the upcoming season of Empire, It was also announced that Pitbull will be joining the cast as a guest star in the second season. Apparently, he’ll be playing himself and is set to perform with Jamal (Jessie Smollet).

Pitbull’s name sits alongside a hefty list of other season 2 guest appearances which include Ludacris, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Lenny Kravitz, and Marisa Tomei and Oh AND Mariah Carey!

Daniels confirmed Mariah’s casting, Wednesday. He didn’t elaborate on the extent of her role. All he said was, “Watch her on Empire you guys …She’s coming to Empire.”

Although that list has a lot of great names on it, Daniels says that producers are being careful to not go into guest-star overload. The guests are great but he doesn’t want them to take away from the Lyon family.

“When you start a television show, you don’t really know what you’re doing, and so you think you’ll get your friends together and everything, and I find that the more celebrities, the more stars I put on this show, the more it takes away from the (Lyon) family. The family, the family, the family is the most important thing,” Daniels said.

Empire season 2 is set to air Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. EDT. Will the room mates be watching?!
