Actor Jussie Smollett who plays Jamal Lyon in hit Fox showEmpire has been sensationally dropped from the show. According to an insider that works on the series, Jussie and his representatives tried to get more money for the next season but was told point blank ‘no.’
The snitch explained: “Terrence [Howard] and Taraji [Henson] are the stars of the show, and they are have secured a substantial pay packet to stay on the show for the foreseeable future. The supporting cast are never going to make that kind of money. Jussie feels like his role is just as important as the Terrence and Taraji. But unfortunately for him the producers wouldn’t consider it.”
Just last season it was reported that Taraji Henson and Terrence Howard who play Cookie and Luscious Lyon both threatened to quit Empire when they didn’t get a raise. But the insider told us FOX managed to get Taraji and Terrence to return. The snitch went on to say: “The contracts were set, so there was nothing that FOX could do to give [Terrence and Taraji] more money. So instead, they did all those one off specials that [the two stars] hosted, and got them paid extra in that way.”
Last night Jussie announced that he is leaving the show…but could it all be a publicity stunt?
