Legendary pop diva Mariah Carey is about to get a new last name after her representatives confirmed she is engaged to billionaire James Packer after a whirlwind romance. Carey’s management confirmed the 45-year-old singer’s engagement saying: ‘Yes, the couple were engaged tonight in New York.’

Carey flashed her huge diamond engagement rock on Thursday after the 47-year-old casino billionaire got down on bended knee following less than a year of dating.

This will be Mariah’s third marriage after splitting from baby daddy Nick Cannon in 2014 and was previously married to music mogul Tommy Mottola from 1993-1998.

A source speaking exclusively to RCV said that Packer presented the musical icon with ‘the most breathtaking engagement ring ever’ and the expensive bling ‘comes in at around 35 carats’ Our snitch also told us that Packer organised a private dinner at Eleven Madison Park in New York with a group of Mariah’s closest friends when he got down on one knee.

No wedding date has been set.

The pair have five children between them. Mariah’s has four-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe. Packer has three children, Indigo, 7, Jackson, 5 and Emmanuelle, 3, from his marriage to Erica Baxter. Packer has also been previously been married to swimsuit model Jodhi Meares.

Speaking on The Steve Harvey Show in November 2015, Mariah revealed when the romance began saying:

‘We first met in Aspen [Colorado]. We were at the Hercules premiere. We were talking and laughing, and people were getting mad at us and stuff like that. So we hit it off.’

In June last year Mariah and Packer were first spotted holding hands on the Italian island of Capri in what was their first public outing as a couple.

As of November 2015, Forbes magazine estimated Packer’s wealth at US$3.8 billion. Packer owns a number of business including successful casinos and was named as an executive producer on Oscar-nominated film The Revenant.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
