The first day of 2017 has started out on a bad note with at least three people killed in separate incidents, in Hanover and St. Andrew.
Dead are 39 year old taxi operator Bruce Brown of Kew, Hanover; 39 year old Tedford Grizzle of New Town, Sandy Bay, Hanover; and, an unidentified man from St. Andrew.
Head of the Hanover police Superintendent Artel Collie, says Brown plies a robot taxi between Lucea and Elgin Town.
Its believed that persons posing as passengers attacked Brown, upon reaching the Johnson Town area.
Reports are that about 2:30 a.m. passing motorists saw Brown’s body, with a gunshot wound to the head, along the Johnson Town main road, and alerted the police.
Its theorized that robbery was the motive, as officers observed that Brown’s pants pockets had been turned out.
The robbers also stole Brown’s black Toyota corolla motor car.
Superintendent Collie says in the second incident, Grizzle had just left a New Years celebration and was on his way home in New Town, when he was attacked and shot by unknown assailants.
Residents of New Town reportedly heard explosions about 5:00 a.m. and summoned the police.
Officers who responded found Grizzle’s body, with a gunshot wound to the upper body, along a roadway in the community.
Over in St. Andrew, reports are that the unidentified man was walking along constant spring road, when he was approached by a man armed with a knife.
The unidentified man was reportedly robbed of his cellular phone, and then stabbed.
He was pronounced dead at hospital.
