The Westmoreland Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating an incident in Negril on Wednesday night during which a constable disarmed a gunman, but had his licensed firearm stolen by the man.
It is reported that the constable took a taxi from Negril.
When the vehicle reached the causeway, a passenger brandished a firearm and pointed it at the driver. The man ordered the driver to divert to Mint Road.
The constable reportedly pulled his firearm, pointed it at the man and identified himself. This led to a struggle between both men.
The driver stopped the car and he along with the passengers ran, leaving the police officer and the gunman.
The man reportedly escaped through the car window with the cop’s firearm, which contained one round. He left behind his own gun, which also contained one round.
