International dancehall artiste Sean Paul has cancelled his scheduled performance in Maldives on New Year’s Eve due to death threats he received last week.
In a message posted on Youtube, Sean Paul was warned that the world would see his “burned and blood-drenched dead body” if he were to honour his commitment. Many fans of the Jamaican artistes, in light of the threats, pleaded with the Gimmie the Lightdeejay not to go to the concert.
Sean Paul announced the cancellation in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
“As a Jamaican reggae musician, I have always promoted love and unity of all cultures, races and religions.
Unfortunately, the world has reached a point where cyber threats must affect real life decisions,” the entertainer said.
He added: “With that said, due to safety concerns for my crew and the people of The Maldives attending the Tourist Arrival Countdown, it is with deep regret that I have come to the difficult decision to cancel my appearance.”
The deejay expressed his appreciation to the Government and the people of the The Maldives for their invitation and said he wished them peace.
