A motorcycle taxi operator who the police said is believed to have been involved in the murder of a PNP political activist on Thursday, in Negril, Westmoreland, was fatally shot by the police at his home, in the Sheffield area on Saturday morning.
The dead man has been identified as, Shem Beck, otherwise called “Puggy”, 29-year-old motorcycle taxi operator of Capture Land in Westmoreland.
Beck is the alleged robber involved in the murder of Mickey Dawes, a Rastafarian businessman of West End, Negril address and Constituency Leader for the People’s National Party in Western Westmoreland.
Conflicting reports are that, about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, a team of officers went to the house in Capture Land occupied by Beck and other family members, and he was shot and killed.
A family member of the deceased told our news team that the dead man who is not a bad individual was in bed, when the lawmen came and kicked in the door to his house.
It is further reported that other family members were dragged from the house by the lawmen who then returned inside and allegedly shot him to death.
Following the fatal shooting, several angry community members gathered at the scene and lashed out at the police.
The angry residents complained to a team attached to INDECOM who were also at the scene and stated that they are now demanding justice.
Shortly after 11:30 am, on Thursday, Dawes was on his construction site in West End Negril overseeing a dream house which he was building in the area.
It was further reported that while at the scene, a motor car with three men on board drove up and one of the men asked for Mr. Dawes.
He was pointed in the direction and the men reportedly brandished handguns and opened fire hitting him several times to his upper body. The men then reportedly stole his licensed firearm.
The Negril police were summoned and upon arrival, the wounded man was transported to the Savanna-la-Mar hospital where he was pronounced dead.
